About Us

Richard Bartrug was born in Wetzel County West Virginia. When he returned to his home state after retiring from the military, he found the job market for an avionics technician to be challenging. After a lengthly job hunt, he decided that rather than working for someone else, it was time to go into business for himself.

The property was purchased when the previous owners decided that it was time to retire. Some minor tweaks to the decor and an updated menu and Tavern 1608 was born. The tavern will continue to evolve and grow with the help of friends, family, and patrons that care.

Let’s face it, good food and drinks are a start, but it takes more than that to make a great bar. Atmosphere, people, and entertainment are all necessary to make a bar successful.

Karaoke, live bands, open-mic nights, and dancing are all great fun, but it takes friendly folks like you to bring it all together.

Your suggestions and ideas will help us to make this your bar.

Got a smiling face and good work ethic? Looking for a part-time job?

Tavern 1608 is a great place to work! We need servers, bar-backs, and other occasional positions to keep the tavern running. If you’re interested in joining us, see a bartender for an application.
